COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Apply principles of evidence-based research and neuroplasticity to assess movement problems and develop intervention strategies using contemporary NDT including components of postural control and how it relates to movement in transitions, play, respiration and reaching. Practical application of treatment strategies to gain meaningful functional outcomes will be discussed through case studies (babies with prematurity, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and other impairments).

- Define key terms in NDT handling (such as key points of contact, direction of pressure, etc.)
- Identify how an NDT treatment session is organized

- Analyze infants with atypical movements
- Provide 2 treatment strategies to each domain.
- Treatment strategies through video demonstration
- Treatment demonstration on doll
- Participants practice with their doll with goal of developing at least 10 new treatment strategies to apply into treatment

Jodee Fortner PT, C/NDT is a pediatric Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) instructor with 26 years of pediatric clinical experience in the states and overseas. She specializes in the treatment of children with neuromuscular impairments as well as early intervention for children of all needs. Additionally, she has specific training in orthotics and serial casting including the Ponseti method for the treatment of club foot. Her international experience gives her cultural competency and the ability to teach in a variety of settings, including being fluent in Spanish and providing courses in Spanish. The dedication to her work combined with gentle instruction provides the knowledge base and practical strategies any therapist can apply to their client population.
