Learn practical activities to improve praxis for inside as well as outside the classroom with additional chances to brainstorm based on your caseload. Sensory integration strategies are given to improve executive functioning and increase student success. Data collection techniques to show the effectiveness of interventions will be emphasized.
Objectives
- Identify and contrast sensory integrative based treatment of praxis issues with treatment using motor learning (practice) and treatment of sensory modulation challenges (sensory diets, Wilbarger Protocol).
- Determine how students’ academic and executive functioning, and their occupational performance may be affected by praxis abilities.
- Design ways to incorporate sensory integration based praxis activities into your present school environment using collaborative problem solving with educational staff.
- Apply data collection skills to behaviors you would like to improve with praxis intervention strategies
Judith Kimball
Judy is the Founding Director of and Professor Emeritus in the Occupational Therapy Department of the University of New England. She has been an OT for almost 50 years, has served as the Director and Post-Professional Graduate Coordinator for the OT program, founded the Community Occupational Therapy Clinic, was the first female Full Professor at UNE and is a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Her clinical work, presentations, and research are in the areas of sensory integration, sensory modulation, manual therapies, clinical research techniques, and PTSD in veterans. She greatly enjoys her volunteer and Board work with Maine State Ballet and Carlisle Academy (therapeutic riding), and she has a daughter who also is an occupational therapist.
