COURSE DESCRIPTON:
Learn intervention strategies to enhance function through the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and sensory systems for gross and fine motor skills and respiration. These strategies will reduce the use of compensatory strategies that impact future development, function and participation in children regardless of diagnosis.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Select a treatment plan that provides necessary musculoskeletal mobility to the core for increased neuromuscular function
- Choose a treatment strategy for a baby that enhances postural control in sitting
- Incorporate a strategy that links postural control and functional movement while providing an appropriate challenge into the babies plan of care
- Determine at least two ways that a parent can carry their baby to provide appropriate postural demands.
AUDIENCE:
Birth to three therapists including OTs, PTs, SLPs, and Special Educators.
COURSE OUTLINE:
- Intervention strategies (including Handling techniques) for:
- Mobility of the spine, rib cage & diaphragm
- Activation of the postural muscles of the core
- Activation of the postural muscles of the core while preforming functional tasks:
- Reaching
- Transitional movements
- Practical ways to carry babies that enhance postural control
Suzanne Davis Bombria, PT, C/NDT is an internationally recognized clinician, speaker & consultant. She is one of the investigators in the RCT project titled “Multi-modal intervention for children with cerebral palsy” and is versed in research. Currently residing in CT, Ms. Davis Bombria applies evidence-based practice with babies and children of all ages, specializing in intensive therapy as well as ongoing intervention. She enjoys teaching therapists around the world and is dedicated to providing insight into contemporary NDT. Ms. Davis Bombria is a Pediatric Coordinator-Instructor and Advanced Course Instructor for the NDTA (TM). Her passion for her work as a pediatric therapist, instructor and mother of a son with cerebral palsy, along with her easy presentation style, provide the theoretical and practical solutions all therapists can apply to their patient population.
