Evaluate and treat gait in children using evidence-based practices. Analyze the components and motor synergies associated with gait, from the acquisition of gait and its underlying components to the challenge of changing gait in children with a well-established pattern. This course aims to equip clinicians with the knowledge and tools to examine, analyze and execute effective intervention to further the child’s functional level. A variety of diagnoses will be covered including CP, DCD and Autism. Course instruction will include lecture, lab, and video case studies.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

- Differentiate the phases of gait, including the dynamic and mechanical elements of gait and how to measure clinically.
- Critique pre-gait and gait patterns of typical children.
- Examine key aspects of developmental biomechanics, kinesiology and alignment for the acquisition of standing and walking.
- Analyze gait patterns in children.
- Differentiate between variety of causes, including identification of strengths and impairments in Body Structure and Function.
- Prioritize the components needed for development of a focused treatment plan designed to improve function in a given child.
- Defend treatment ideas with evidence.
