Join Mary Massery and Learn Rehabilitative Care and Treatment Techniques for Patients Experiencing Lingering Symptoms of COVID-19

It has been over a year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic – and while there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel, medical professionals, including PTs, OTs, and SLPs, are seeing a rise in patients experiencing debilitating symptoms months after contracting the COVID-19 virus. Patients experiencing these lingering symptoms initially coined themselves “COVID-long haulers” or “Long Covid,” and in February 2021, the National Institutes of Health officially named the condition “post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection,” or PASC.  Research says about 10% of people with COVID-19 are diagnosed with PASC, and while PASC appears to affect people differently, symptoms include varying degrees of fatigue, brain fog, loss of smell and taste, shortness of breath, cough, joint pain, chest pain.

Therapists working in rehab settings can learn how to navigate this new medical landscape through ERI’s live continuing education webinar “COVID-19 Long-Haulers: Potential Long-Term Physical Problems.” Taught by acclaimed speaker Mary Massery, an expert in rehabilitative care, this new course focuses on COVID survivors who are medically stable, but not returning to their pre-morbid health status and/or pre-morbid activity levels.  Mary will teach a multi-system approach to determine these patients’ short-term and potential long-term physical problems especially as they relate to core stability and breathing mechanics. Mary will also present a contextual model of postural control (soda-pop can model) to assist therapists in anticipating potential problems of long-haulers’ trajectory of recovery.
