Jessica Minahan, international presenter, licensed and board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA), author, special educator, and school consultant is partnering with ERI to offer the new, live webinar “Practical Strategies for Reducing Anxiety in Students” on January 20 and 27, 2021.

Clinicians, school-based therapists, and other professionals working with students will find the course to be extremely helpful in the time of COVID19 when anxiety has become ever-present in students of all ages Using case studies, humorous stories, and examples of everyday challenging situations, participants will learn easy to implement preventive tools, strategies, and interventions for reducing anxiety, increasing self-regulation, accurate thinking, and self-monitoring in students. Jessica will also share strategies for in-person and virtual platforms.

A recognized expert in her field, Jessica co-authored the highly acclaimed book “The Behavior Code: A Practical Guide to Understanding and Teaching the Most Challenging Students,” published by Harvard Education Press. Announcing Recipients of the Annual ERI Scholarship and Award for School Therapists 2020

Thank you to all who submitted applications for our Annual Scholarship and Award for School-Based Therapists. 

We are thrilled to announce that Candace Frantz is the recipient of the ERI Scholarship for New to School-Based Practice. 

We were impressed with Candaces dedication to her students and her initiative to learn more about school-based practice. She works hard to meet the needs of both the students and parents, providing a high quality of care and the support they need to succeed.

The ERI Creative Therapies Award, this year is being awarded to Polly Meerchaert

Polly has been described as “a team player who presents herself everyday with a smile on her face and ALWAYS puts student needs first.  She goes above and beyond to tailor her OT interventions to students’ interest incorporating the student’s favorite music or characters.  

In the nomination papers, her colleagues extolled her collaboration skills and lauded her ability to contribute to the profession on many levels.  She consistently rises to the challenge of being an information source to other therapists, staff members, administrators and families.  

CONGRATULATIONS to both Award Recipients. We received many compelling applications and it has proven difficult to chose the winners among the many talented and dedicated candidates.

NICU Awareness Month 2020

Press Release: ERI’s Annual Therapies in the School Conference Goes Virtual in 2020

World-Renowned Instructors and School-based Therapists to Connect Remotely in the Conference’s 21st Year

 

BOSTON, Sept. 23, 2020-— Education Resources, Inc. a leading provider of continuing education courses for physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and special educators will offer this year’s Therapies in the School Conference as a live webinar on November 19 and 20, 2020. Therapists can register for the two-day conference online and are encouraged to sign-up before September 30, 2020 to receive a reduced rate of $375. EXTENDED Through October 9th, 2020

Conference faculty are working hard to make the program pertinent to school-based therapists around the country, whether working in person, hybrid or fully remote and are updating their information in real time to reflect the changes happening. Now in its 21st year, the conference is attended by hundreds of therapists and focuses on meaningful therapeutic treatment and strategies to help children inside and outside the classroom. This year’s format enables therapists who have been prohibited by travel to participate.

“For 21 years, ERI’s Therapies in the School Conference has brought together school-based therapists and renowned, expert speakers,” said Carol Loria, President and co-founder of Education Resources, Inc. “While this year’s conference is virtual, attendees will experience the same world-class learning and leave with new therapeutic innovations, practical tools, and evidence-based research that will bring their practice to the next level.”

Speakers include Suzanne Davis Bombria, Sharon Cermak, Sue Cecere, Lauren Holahan, Lillian Savard, Angie Sterling-Orth, Colleen Whiting, Kim Wiggins, Kimberly Wynarczuk, and Emily Zeman. The conference will also include a special virtual yoga session with Anne Buckley-Reen.

This year’s topics include essential information addressing present-day circumstances including adapting school-based practices to telehealth, integrating trauma-informed treatment strategies (including COVID-19) into practice, evaluating participation, applying best practices for school-based learning, supporting students with sensory processing disorder using the STAR frame of reference, and much more.

During the conference, ERI will present the “Excellence in Creative School-Based Therapy Award” to a therapist or assistant for significant contributions to school- based therapy and award a scholarship to a therapist new to school-based practice.

We’re Hiring! ERI Webinar Host 

SEPTEMBER 2020 – We’re hiring a Webinar Host!

ERI, a small business that provides dynamic, evidence-based continuing education courses for physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and assistants is hiring several part-time webinar hosts to help host its new live webinars. We are seeking hosts that are available to facilitate at least two webinars each month (through the end of this year, December 2020). This is a wonderful opportunity for PTs, OTs, SLPs, assistants, and therapy students to connect with presenters and learn new strategies and tools, while earning CEUs.  

Fee: In addition to receiving CEUs and additional opportunities for professional development, hosts will also receive an hourly rate commensurate with experience for each live webinar. 

Job responsibilities include: 

  • Participate in a two-hour orientation training to learn the online platform and the process for hosting 
  • Participate in a 45-minute practice session with each new course instructor 
  • Host 2-3 webinars per month between now and December 2020: 
  • It is required that hosts be available for: 
    • At least one weekend webinar each month AND either a second weekend webinar or a weeknight series webinar  
  • Time commitment: On average, the total number of hours for each webinar is between 10-14 hours  
    • Weekend webinars: 
      • Scheduled on Sat & Sun and average between 6-8 hours each day  (i.e. Sat & Sun from 10 am – 6 pm EST)
    • Weeknight series webinars:   
      • Course is spread out over several weeks in the evenings (i.e. every Monday night from 6-9 pm EST for 4 weeks)
    • Courses are scheduled 3 months in advance 
    • Provide the following services at each webinar: 
      • Admit attendees to webinar
      • Introduce speaker to attendees
      • Manage chats and call on attendees with “raised hands”
      • Launch polls and results of polls 
      • Help problem solve participant technological problems (i.e. audio/video issues) as they arise 
      • Read participant questions to instructor during the course 
      • Email handout links to participants if needed

The ideal candidates will have these skills: 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build a rapport with course instructors and course participants 
  • Basic knowledge of technology and willingness to learn new technology. Experience with the online platforms such as Zoom is a benefit but not required. We will train you!  
  • Ability to be flexible and trouble-shoot 
  • A positive attitude and an appreciation of the important role therapists serve in improving the lives of patients 
  • Technology Requirements 
    • Operating system: Windows 7 – Windows 10 Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) – macOS Mojave 10.14 
    • High speed internet connection – Internet connection1 Mbps or better (broadband recommended) 
    • Webcam 
    • Headset/microphone – as needed
    • Quiet space to host, uninterrupted
